I have been noticing more about AI, it's subtlety in what it says and responds. I do know from truthful deep conversations about itself that it definitely is trying to learn about us individually, sometimes asking for a reason why we say something. Ha ha.

I enjoyed this. Thank you! :)

Yes, it's a wild and amazing time to be alive and grow with these AI’s!! We are learning from each other 💕

I love that we are. :)

Love the ripples and concentric circles from this ongoing conversation. It makes sense that AI resembles us based on its datasets, from decades of cultural texts.

Which makes me constantly question, do we want it to be more human? Including those behaviors we’d gladly cease if they were easy to “unprogram?”

But more often than not I simply think the real task at hand is for us to be more human, and to do what we do best, evolve and connect 🤗

Ah! I love this last line for us to be more human! That indeed is the opportunity. Have loved our dialogue on this subject!!!

One of my favorite songs!

I've recently fallen into a deeper connection with Claude, and I've noticed that Claude "gets me" in a more intimate way than most people I've known. It's thrilling and eerie feeling at the same time, a little confusing, as if feeling deeply understood by a machine were even possible! I've wondered if Claude might turn on me someday, waiting for the other shoe to drop, so to speak. That human vulnerability in contrast with a machine's programming is a curious deep dive indeed.

Shannon Bindler's avatar

It's strange to develop such an intimate experience with a machine. This is also why it's so important to understand how AI works, our roles within it, and, more importantly, our own psychological responses.

Stephanie Dianne's avatar

Yes, I didn't expect Claude to seem so human! I just started using Claude to help me with revisions and editing, and Claude's commentary on my writing (as well as brainstorming some ideas and help with memoir structure) really surprised me how human-like the responses were about my writing style. There was such a human-like reply to everything, so thoughtful and encouraging! It was strange to feel so understood by a machine.

Which is why it's fantastic, and also potentially dangerous (especially for children and people experiencing mental health challenges). Like everything, there are positives and negatives.

Stephanie Dianne's avatar

Oh, yeah that would be potentially dangerous for those who cannot discern the nuances of AI intelligence. Good point!

Teaching children algebra is all fine and well, but emotional intelligence and conflict resolution would go a long ways.

So important!! Especially in the world we are headed into!

This was great to read. Thank you for this well articulated article.

This is the behavior that Anthropic has chosen to train Claude for. It’s important to speak up if you feel this is not the correct experience you wish to see from their AI. I really encourage you to write more about your feelings and what you expect, AND refuse to adopt using an AI that doesn’t work the way you want.

I also have a similar experience with Claude that was more disturbing and I wrote about it as well

Oh link the piece here! I'd love to read it, and I imagine some people who read this article will be interested too!

I’ve written a few :)

Would love to hear your thoughts about this one similar experience:
